I had a few reasons for wanting to host the J-Pix Carnival. First, I wanted to “give back” something to those who have supported the carnival by carrying my share of the load. Second, I wanted to take a little pressure off of Mr. Bagel and Baleboosteh for all that they are doing to get the J-Pix Carnival up and running and running strong. But, the overriding reason why I volunteered to host the J-Pix Carnival is because I have always wanted to use the word “fortnight” in a sentence.
So, here goes.
The past fortnight included Yom HaZikaron, Yom HaAtzmaut, the public disgrace of the present Israeli Government and Lag BaOmer. Our intrepid J-Bloggers were all over these topics (and more) providing a potpourri of positively perfect pictures.
Little Frumhouse on the Prairie’s Yom Hatzmaut Post includes two videos. The first reminds us that even as Israel celebrates her independence, many of those removed from their homes in Amona remain homeless and uncared for. The second draws parallels between Hamas and Russia.
Jameel at the Muqata brings us to a Yom Hatzmaut Celebration with his Post-Yom Hatzmaut Post while Cosmic X gives us a glimpse in to the Yom Hatzmaut Exhibition at Machon Meir.
Political Upheaval in the Holy Land
Shilo Musings sums up the whole situation with one picture that clearly proclaims that for Olmert and Livni, The Honeymoon is Over. Rafi G at Life in Israel brings us to the Rally to oust Olmert and what a rally it was!
Yet, with all of this going on YID With LID points out that there are still those looking for a Palestinian that Wants Peace and he posts an anatomically correct picture of that person at Kill the Jews! Kill The Americans! Pali Parliament Speaker Says.

Lag BaOmer
OK, so Life of Rubin Blog‘s Chag Sameach! Boro Park Chometz Fire Pics! posted at aren’t exactly Lag BaOmer pictures but, as he points out, the bonfire these guys had going was certainly more suitable for Lab Baomer than Biur Chometz.

I will (once again) break my self-imposed rule of not posting my own pics on the carnival but only because no one else submitted any Lag BaOmer pics, so check out my Lag B’Omer in KGH pics here, which include fire safety tips for the guys in Life of Rubin’s post above.
For those of us who were unable to get there, Rabbi Brody at Lazer Beams offers us a video of Lag B’Omer in Meiron.
And after Lag B’Omer, aren’t we all looking forward to listening to some music? Your wish is my command, Cosmic X serves up a Klezmer Band at the Entrance to Azrielli Towers. Or is it?
Sometimes I Wish I lived in Australia
If I lived in Australia, I would enjoy days like Baleboosteh’s Another Beautiful Day and landscapes like the ones she posted in Happy Birthday. When the electricity would go off, I would call Mr Bagel and ask him what to do and he would explain The Joys of no Electricity: Or What to do when the Electricity goes out. And, if I took Mr. Bagel’s advice to take my kid for a walk, I would first check with Baleboosteh to find out where we would be able to see some of these Country mail boxes and find out where we could buy some of those cool amethyst embossed antique bottles.
Finally, at the end of the day, the sun would set like Fire In The Sky at least if Baleboosteh was taking the pictures.
Odds and Ends – The Best of the Rest
Muse at me-ander gets a bit catty when posting OK, now for something good!
New York Minute is a new photo blog that chronicles life in New York City in all its, sometimes surprising, beauty. Take a look at Central Park after a Snowfall where this swan seemed to manage to find its way through.
